BB93

Building Bulletin 93 (BB93) provides a regulatory framework for the acoustic design of schools in support of the Building Regulations. The overall aim is to provide acoustic conditions in schools that facilitate clearer communication of speech between teacher and students and do not interfere with study activities. The BB93 sets out to define the sound insulating standards of the external building envelope as well as controlling internal noise from room to room.

The following criteria should be considered for the successful achievement of the above.

Indoor ambient noise levels
Speech intelligibility in open-plan offices
Areas of sound absorbing finishes in circulation spaces
Airborne sound insulation between spaces below
Impact sound transmission of floors into spaces below
Reverberation times in teaching and stud spaces
